What is drone cleaning?

A professional, ground-supplied cleaning system

Our specialist cleaning drone is connected to a professional ground-based supply system, allowing controlled cleaning of façades, roofs, glazing, cladding, solar arrays and other suitable structures while the flight crew remains at ground level.

Drone cleaning is one of several methods we use. As an established exterior-cleaning company with more than 25 years’ experience, we recommend whatever is right for the building — traditional access, soft washing, hot water, purified water, specialist equipment or commercial drone cleaning.

  • Façades & curtain walling
  • Warehouse roofs & cladding
  • Commercial solar arrays
  • Glasshouses & agricultural buildings
  • Schools & campus buildings
  • Canopies & unusual structures

Specialist capability

Hot-Water Drone Cleaning

Our specialist system is capable of delivering heated water through the ground-supplied cleaning system, providing additional cleaning performance on suitable surfaces without relying solely on aggressive pressure or chemical treatment.

Water temperature, pressure and application are selected according to the surface and the project, and are used within our approved operational setup.

  • Heated water delivered from ground level
  • Less reliance on pressure or chemicals
  • Effective on stubborn contamination
  • Matched to each surface

How every drone project is planned

Suitability involves far more than looking at the building. Every project is assessed and planned before any drone cleaning is recommended or booked.

  1. 01

    Remote site survey

We review the site using photographs, mapping and aerial imagery before anything is booked.

  2. 02

    Building & surface assessment

Surfaces, materials, condition and contamination are assessed to choose the right cleaning method, temperature and application.

  3. 03

    Airspace & operational assessment

Airspace, permissions, surrounding hazards, neighbouring properties and weather considerations are reviewed.

  4. 04

    Site-specific flight & cleaning plan

A tailored plan sets out flight areas, cleaning sequence, water supply, timings and site coordination.

  5. 05

    RAMS & exclusion-zone planning

Site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements, exclusion zones and access arrangements are agreed with you.

  6. 06

    Controlled cleaning operation

Our trained team carries out the clean under our CAA Operational Authorisation, with the flight crew remaining at ground level.

  7. 07

    Before & after photographic report

You receive photographic reporting of the completed work and advice on future maintenance.

Reduced work at heightThe flight crew remains at ground level while the drone accesses suitable elevated surfaces.
Potentially reduced access costsOn suitable projects, drone cleaning can reduce or remove the requirement for scaffolding, MEWPs and other specialist access equipment.
Reduced disruptionLess access equipment can mean quicker mobilisation and less interference with normal site operations.
Controlled cleaningThe cleaning method, water temperature, pressure and application are selected according to the surface and project requirements.

Honest advice

Is drone cleaning right for your site?

Drone cleaning is a specialist commercial method — it is not the answer for every building. Here is how we decide.

Often a strong fit

  • Large, tall or wide elevations
  • Big roof areas and roof-mounted solar arrays
  • Fragile glazed roofs such as glasshouses
  • Sites where scaffolding or powered access is costly or disruptive
  • Surroundings and airspace where operations can be safely planned and permitted

We may recommend another method

  • Standard residential homes
  • Heavy moss that needs careful manual removal
  • Very confined sites or close neighbouring structures
  • Airspace where permission cannot be obtained
  • Surfaces better suited to hands-on or ground-based cleaning

Either way, you get a clear recommendation and a free quotation.

FAQs

Drone cleaning questions

Do you operate under a CAA Operational Authorisation?

Yes. Drone Exterior Solutions Ltd carries out commercial drone cleaning operations under a Civil Aviation Authority Operational Authorisation, and every project is subject to site-specific assessment and operational planning.

What is a remote survey?

Before we quote, we review your site using photographs, mapping and aerial imagery to understand the building, surfaces and surroundings. This is the first step in confirming whether drone cleaning is suitable, safe and permitted.

Can you clean with hot water using the drone?

Yes. Our system can deliver heated water through the ground-supplied cleaning system on suitable surfaces, within our approved operational setup.

Can you clean my house with a drone?

Drone cleaning is a specialist commercial service for suitable buildings and structures. Homes are best served by our traditional residential methods, which we have provided for more than 25 years.

Does weather affect drone cleaning?

Yes. Wind, rain and other conditions are checked before and during every operation. If conditions are not right, we reschedule.

Is drone cleaning always cheaper or faster?

Not always. On suitable projects it can reduce or remove the need for scaffolding, MEWPs and other access equipment, which can reduce cost and disruption. The site assessment tells us whether that applies to your building.

Do you provide RAMS?

Yes. Commercial projects can be supported by site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements, insurance documentation, operational planning and before-and-after photographic reporting.

Do you travel outside your main areas?

Our core areas are Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex. We are happy to travel further afield where a larger commercial or specialist project warrants it.
